Indian Head Massage at the Evergreen Fayre

Massage has been incorporated into western culture to promote relaxation. But did you know massage practices can be beneficial to your health & wellbeing in biological ways? Indian head massage is an ancient Indian practice used to reduce stress and promote the physical health of the body. The therapy focuses on the head, neck, upper back and arms, face and shoulders.

This massage practice increases blood flow to the scalp which has an array of physical benefits. Massage promotes the flow of oxygen. This has been said to help with mental fatigue and improve concentration. The massage technique in this area also Increases what is known as lymphatic flow. Consequently this enables toxins to leave the body. Other benefits of the practice include: relief of tension headache, migraine, eyestrain, ear ache, tinnitus, insomnia, sinusitis congestion, neck and shoulder stiffness as well as promoting hair growth.

Holistic benefits

The holistic benefits of Indian head massage are an interesting aspect of this therapy. The results include the balancing of chakra energy, release of stagnant energy; boosting available energy on all levels and a sense of calm, peace and tranquility. This therapy is unlike other forms of massage. The direct interaction with the crown chakra which occurs in Indian head massage promotes wisdom, unity and self knowledge. The experience can be elevated by essential oils which can be incorporated into the process. A brilliant addition to your health & wellbeing regimen!

During Indian head massage there is no need to undress. As a result the therapy can take place efficiently and in a non invasive fashion. This makes it a perfect addition to the wide range of services which will be available at the Evergreen Health & Wellbeing Fayre. Masseuse Kim Singh will be present to provide therapy treatments and information.

Here’s what Kim Singh had to say about his practice

I came to realise that my parents had a vast knowledge of massage and pressure point techniques.  They had never studied massage however, I came to know that this was generational knowledge passed down through the family. Massage was always something my parents naturally did when my siblings and I were ill or in need of some sort of comforting.

I have been practicing Indian Head Massage and treating people for over 30 years. I have always been compassionate towards helping people improve their health and general well-being.

Additionally I will say, I believe I was guided to become a therapist, to help people.  I think we sometimes, are deprived of and crave human touch.  Even that little touch on the shoulder can have a huge healing affect. Children stumble and hurt themselves, just that gentle rub on that area with a little reassurance will stop them crying. It is that healing an act.

My Indian Head Massage therapy is rooted in the tradition Champi (Head massage). I feel privileged to have been taught by the late Narendra Mehta, who brought these traditional techniques to this country. This therapy is something that has to be experienced to be truly appreciated.

HairS3crets: A Natural Journey to Hair Products

We’ve all noticed the wide spread concern against harsh chemicals being used in anything that comes into contact with the body. Self care products containing all natural ingredients have become increasingly popular over the years. In many cases overuse of additives causes the direct opposite effect desired when on the hunt for products that improve the condition of skin and hair.

Additionally the issue of finding brands that are effective for a wide range of hair types and textures can be time consuming. The Evergreen Fayre prides itself on being a one stop shop for all things wellbeing. HairS3crets embraces this perfectly with a collection, unique in its wide selection of organic hair care products. The majority of these presenting results in hair types from 1a to 4c, including Locs and protective styles!

Shanice Hayes, the creator of HairSecrets began her professional journey as a qualified hairdresser at Toni and Guy. She noticed the lack of education there was in the styling of black hair textures. As a result Shanice opted to take a route which would provide hands-on experience working with black clients. This enabled her to advance her skills as a hairstylist, in ways that are often overlooked by Eurocentric salons.

Shanice was able to learn exactly how to meet the requirements which promote strong healthy hair while maintaining various styles and textures. This niche perspective meant Shanice was able to develop products which would align with her ethos.

Although the idea of beginning her own line of cosmetics was intimidating, Shanice saw the necessity during the 2020 lockdown. Taking up a DIY project (as most of us tried to) Shanice endeavoured to make her own shea butter. After posting the result on her social media Shanice was met with a stream of requests for purchasing. This provided the reassurance she needed that the customers were indeed out there and waiting for a line like hers.

We asked Shanice what separated her products from the array of large scale brands which provide hair care,

Heres what she had to say:

What makes Hairs3crets unique is that we use natural herbs and seeds to make our hair products. Hairs3crets hair products are also suitable for all hair types and for children to use from ages as young as 2 months old. Everything is handmade by myself. I make all orders fresh and to suit the needs of individual customers. If there is a particular ingredient someone is allergic to I take it out and replace it with something else that will be suitable. Hairs3crets products are Paraben, SLS, and SLES-free. My line also includes natural hair gel and edge control that won’t cause breakage to the hair!

Postpartum Health & Wellbeing: For A Better You

Postpartum health & wellbeing practices are imperative to child rearing and ensuring the personal wellness of mums. Despite its relevance, to such a high percentage of the population, it is often overlooked. Finding the time to actively comfort and treat your body can be difficult as a mum. It feels as though there simply isn’t enough time in the day! Adding the extra research of what to do and how can make it seem almost impossible.

Charlotte Fitzgerald from For A Better You is an expert on how to take care of your postpartum body in a simple, effective way. Charlotte’s experience as a pelvic floor health coach means she has accumulated a range of information, which she practices herself. We at Bellamy Central couldn’t miss the opportunity to have For A Better You at the Evergreen Health & Wellbeing Fayre this May! We asked Charlotte to speak to our Bellamy Central readers about her practice.

How did you become interested in Health & Wellbeing practices?

It all started when I became a single mum 8 years ago. I was unable to return to work full time due to not being close to my family for support. I decided to turn my then hobby into a career and studied to become a Pilates instructor. I have been teaching now for 7 years.

Why did you decide to develop your practice into a more niche direction?

My passion for anatomy grew. I was following a lady online who was educating fitness professionals on the pelvic floor. I myself was suffering with mild incontinence on an irregular basis. I had experienced the negative impact of having a weaker pelvic floor following the births of my two children.

Fast forward to February 2020, I attended a 1 day course to learn more about the pelvic floor. What I learned on that day changed my life forever. It made me want to share the knowledge I had gained with any woman who would listen.

I have now been a pelvic floor health coach for almost 3 years and educated numerous women through my online courses and my social media platforms on the importance of pelvic floor health.

What do you believe the benefits of your practices are?

My postpartum health & wellbeing practices enable women to feel more knowledgeable and more confident in their pelvic floor. It prepares and protects them from having any unwanted accidents.

Why is your practice important to you?

My mission is to empower women and help them regain confidence in their pelvic floor. I want to get rid of the taboo around incontinence and give women a safe space to speak up about any issues that they are currently facing.

My next pelvic floor confidence course will be running online. A 4 week course that provides you with all you need to know to improve your knowledge of the pelvic floor as well as the practical aspect that will leave you feeling more confident in your pelvic floor within the time of the course.

You can visit my website fabupilates.co.uk for more information

For one to one advice and tools on improving pelvic floor health you can meet Charlotte Fitzgerald at the Evergreen Health & Wellbeing Fayre on May 7th, at the Waltham Forest Community Hub. Grab your ticket now, on our Eventbrite page

Health & Wellbeing: Aromatherapy and its benefits

When it comes to treating anxiety and depression, aromatherapy has been a time tested remedy, its healing benefits have been recognised by many cultures for centuries. Many studies have attested to the positive effects and the increasing popularity of variations of aromatherapy products. Sales on diffusers and essential oils appear to be at an all time high. This holistic healing treatment can easily be incorporated into your daily routine; especially with brands who take the extra steps out of setting up an essential oil diffuser! Aromatherapy candles as an alternative to essential oil diffusers are an efficient and effective health & wellbeing must have. The minimised packaging and plastics in comparison to diffusers make these candles practical and sustainable. Bellamy Central is overjoyed to welcome Whirl, the independent business owner of WOW Aromatherapy, to our Evergreen Health & Wellbeing Fayre this May!

We asked Whirl some questions to help you learn more about her products and business before the Evergreen Fayre event.

What began your interest in Health & Wellbeing practices and products?

By profession I am a physiotherapist so I always had my interests in health and fitness. However, my interest sprung up in wellbeing when I was suffered with postpartum depression and anxiety last year. I battled depression for 6 months until I could finally find solace in my space with lit lavender candles.

Why did you decide to begin making your own aromatherapy candles?

I found candle making very therapeutic and helped keep my mind active and on track. That began the evolution of WOW aromatherapy candles in August 2022.

What do you believe is the impact of your products/services on Health & Wellbeing?

Aromatherapy is a blend of natural essential oils which are therapeutic and help promote relaxation and healing. Only soy wax and cruelty free essential fragrance oils are used, so no harmful toxins are produced. These measures give us an edge over the rest of the candle industry. I have found that through my journey aromatherapy has been a lifesaver. I want this healing to be shared through my candles and reach out to as many people as it can. I’m grateful to those who have already bought our candles and found them comforting and healing. I have also received some amazing reviews that keep me motivated to continue my journey.

WOW Aromatherapy’s sleek, minimalistic products are an amazing entryway to aromatherapy and anxiety relief. In addition to their natural ingredients they are handmade with care and consideration for the health & wellbeing of customers! To support WOW Aromatherapy and have the opportunity to check out her products for yourself, be sure to book your FREE ticket to the Evergreen Health & Wellbeing Fayre coming to the Waltham Forest Community Hub on May 7th 2023.

Ladina Yoga’s journey to accessible and sustainable yoga

Ladina Yoga Mats

There is now so much information about practices and products to improve your mental and physical well-being. But how do you know what’s right for you? Bellamy Central spoke to Maysun about Ladina Yoga’s journey to accessible and sustainable yoga for all.

You may have heard by now that Bellamy Central is hosting their Health & Wellbeing Fayre this May! A wellness haven where anyone can enjoy a variety of services and products provided by independent vendors and businesses. The event welcomes seasoned lifestyle enthusiasts, such as Ladina Yoga, as well as newcomers. But for some, starting the journey into health and wellness can be intimidating.

This article provides information and honest personal insights from Ladina Yoga’s Maysun. She shares her experiences, from beginner to expert Yoga instructor, and helps to demystify wellness practices.

When did you become interested in yoga practices?

“I discovered yoga at 19 years old just after moving to London from Madagascar for my studies. I wasn’t “good” at sports and hated the gym so I thought I could find some solace in yoga. And I did!”

What was the process of adopting sustainable yoga like as a lifestyle choice?

Over the years I had an on/off relationship with yoga and it took me 6 years to become more regular and disciplined with it. At the beginning I remember struggling because I tried a lot of classes in different studios and gyms in London but I never seemed to fit in anywhere. I was the person standing out because of my “beginner’s” level, I wasn’t wearing any “cool” brands, the post-yoga kale juice didn’t attract me, I was almost passing out in hot yoga classes and I was a brown girl in a crowd of mostly white people. But I kept coming back because yoga made me feel good and at peace, so I knew there was something there working for me.

How did you overcome the feeling of not belonging?

Over the years I learnt to focus and only practiced yoga in places where I felt comfortable and stopped trying to fit in. In 2020 I became more curious about the background and philosophy of yoga and trained as a yoga teacher in India in 2020 just before lockdown! I would have never imagined being a yoga teacher in a million years, let alone build my own yoga brand but here we are and I am loving it!

What have you found to be the benefits of yoga, and why is your practice important to you?

My practice is now embedded in my life. I start my mornings with meditation. I also do yoga Asana and journaling (and a little boogie to get me in a good mood!). If I have more time in the evenings or on the weekends I do a longer practice on my own or in a class. I keep learning everyday by reading books, listening to podcasts, teaching, talking to other teachers and my community.

There is so much to learn and for me yoga is a great tool to accept myself, get to know myself better, go beyond my fears and grow. Yoga has also been a huge help to deal with grief when my dad passed away and it has helped me to accept it and deal with my feelings. Yoga keeps me grounded, especially as I have busy days and sometimes get stressed and overwhelmed. It’s a good reminder to be mindful, focus on the present moment, accept things the way they are and be more compassionate towards myself and others.

What inspired you to expand your personal yoga practice to become a brand that offers products as well as classes?

I created Ladina Yoga, a sustainable yoga brand inspired from Africa, because I want to empower African artists. I also wanted to help yoga practitioners reconnect with the earth. A fundamental philosophy of yoga is “Ahimsa”, which means “non-harming”. Ahimsa is at the core of Ladina Yoga because the products are eco-friendly, ethically-made and designed to support yoga practitioners.

Shining a light on African artists is very important to me. Growing up in Madagascar I saw amazing handmade and organic crafts by local artists. So I wanted to share them with the world and improve the local living conditions. For every yoga mat sold, we plant a mangrove tree in Madagascar, the fourth most de-forested country in the world. By supporting Ladina, you are not just getting beautiful sustainable yoga accessories, but supporting families and the planet.

Visit our Evergreen Fayre in May to learn more about Ladina Yoga’s journey to accessible and sustainable yoga for all. Ladina Yoga as well as other independent vendors will be gathering to share their products and services. Take part in a yoga session, ask advice from qualified practitioners, browse an array of wellness products and more. Tickets are available on Eventbrite
